What we do · Mobile apps

Apps people keepon their phone.

iOS and Android apps, designed and built end to end. We start with what someone opens the app to do, then make that the easiest thing in it.

A phone is an unforgiving place to put an idea. People use apps standing up, one-handed, distracted, in bad light, often for less than a minute. Anything confusing gets deleted, and nobody writes to tell you why.

So we design for the one thing someone opens your app to do, and make everything else get out of its way. Fewer screens, bigger targets, clearer language, and a first run that doesn't demand a tutorial.

Sometimes the right answer isn't an app at all. A mobile website or a web app can do the job for a fraction of the cost, and we'll tell you when that's true before you spend the money.

Designed for real hands and real conditions

We build the experience around how people actually hold a phone: thumb-reachable actions, type that survives sunlight, targets you can hit while walking, and states for slow connections and no connection at all.

Accessibility is part of that, not a later pass. Proper contrast, text that scales when someone has increased their font size, labels that make sense to a screen reader, and motion that respects a reduced-motion setting.

Prove the idea before the full build

You can learn most of what matters from a version people can hold and tap, long before the app is finished. We build that early — real screens, real flows, on a real device — and put it in front of the people you're building for.

It's the cheapest moment to be wrong. Every change after the store release costs more, and a review takes days rather than minutes.

Getting it into the stores, and keeping it there

Shipping a mobile app includes the parts nobody enjoys: developer accounts, provisioning, store listings, screenshots, privacy disclosures, review feedback and the update cycle after launch.

We handle that with you, set up the accounts in your name, and keep the app working as the platforms change underneath it.

Where it fits in the method

Every Artifact engagement runs on one method: Understand → Design → Build → Launch → Grow. These are the stages where Mobile App Design & Development does the most work. See how we work.

  1. 01Understand

Who opens the app, what for, and whether a mobile app is genuinely the right shape for the idea.

  2. 02Design

The core flow designed for one hand and small moments, then tested on an actual phone.

  3. 03Build

A production app for iOS and Android, with offline behavior, notifications and the integrations it needs.

  4. 04Launch

Store setup, listings, review, accessibility and device testing, and analytics from the first install.

  5. 05Grow

What people do after install decides what ships next — and what gets removed.

What you get

  • A clear decision on whether you need a mobile app, a web app, or both
  • A designed, testable version on a real device early
  • An accessible iOS and Android app, built from one codebase where that fits
  • App Store and Google Play setup, submission and review support, in your accounts
  • Analytics that show what people actually do after install
  • A release plan for updates after launch

Who it's for

  • Founders whose idea only makes sense in someone's pocket
  • Businesses whose customers are already on their phone all day
  • Teams with staff working away from a desk who need tools that travel
  • Organizations serving people the app stores usually design past

Common questions

Do I need a mobile app or a web app?
If people need notifications, offline use, the camera or a home-screen icon they open daily, a mobile app earns its cost. If they'd use it occasionally on a laptop, a web app is usually faster and cheaper to build and change. We'll tell you which one your idea actually needs.
Do you build for both iOS and Android?
Yes, usually from one codebase so you're not paying twice for every feature. Where an app genuinely needs platform-specific work, we'll explain the trade-off before committing.
Can you get it into the App Store for us?
Yes. We set up the developer accounts in your name, prepare the listing and screenshots, submit, and handle review feedback. You keep the accounts and the keys.
What if I just want to test the idea first?
That's often the smartest first step. We can build a version real people can use on their phone without going through store release, learn from it, and only then decide what's worth building fully.

Got an app idea worth testing?

Tell us what someone would open it to do. We'll help you work out whether it needs an app, and what the first version should be.
